THIS IS part two of my forum on celebrities’ greatest sacrifice for someone they love.
Lent is a yearly reminder that we should try to be more selfless each day. We must learn how to love not just because, but also in spite of.
Looking back, the biggest sacrifice I ever did for love was to live in a far-flung and backward town because my boyfriend then was assigned there. The party girl in me was on domesticated mode for a change.
But while I was at it, I didn’t think of it as a sacrifice at all. I played the role to a hilt and savored every challenging moment of it. That crazy episode of my colorful love life gave me a sense of fulfillment that no amount of success could ever beat.
May real love take over our lives, long after Easter is over so that in the end, all our small and big sacrifices would be worthwhile.
As we all take a Holy Week break, may our soul-searching eventually lead us to soul mate-finding.
CESAR MONTANO: “Swallowing my pride for my wife Shine. I would always humble myself every time we have a misunderstanding. I make it a point to always be the one to say sorry no matter who started the trouble.”
DINGDONG DANTES: “Thinking of different pet names for each other every week. Marian and I love calling each other using various terms of endearment. It’s quite a sacrifice because I give supreme value to the name given to me by my parents. ‘Dachie’ is my latest pet name. Of course, it’s a mutual agreement and I also have the leverage of giving her the best and most appropriate creative names.”
CHRISTINE JACOBS-SANDEJAS: “The sacrifice would be for my five kids. They say whenever a woman gives birth, she has one foot in the grave. I would gladly give up my life for my little angels.”
RACHEL ALEJANDRO: “My trip to Laos is my biggest sacrifice. I almost died hiking for hours, zip lining and getting bitten by bugs in the jungle. But I did all that because my husband Carlos wanted to go. He promised not to put me through so much hardship next time.”
LUKE MEJARES: “Back in college, I passed up the chance to go with the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) Dramatics and Cultural Ensemble abroad because my girlfriend then didn’t want me to. She told me she would break up with me if I joined the trip. Martir at ander de saya ako that time. It would have been my first trip out of the country, but for the sake of love, I had to sacrifice.”
ALVIN ANSON: “The greatest sacrifice I made was when I let go of my GF back then to be with the guy she’s happy with. That was when the saying, ‘When you love someone, set her free’ rang true to me.”
MR. FU: “I have three memorable sacrifices for some special people— men and women— in the past. One, I learned how to play in an amusement center, because that’s his favorite kahit ’di ako amused sa games! Two, I learned how to act like a gentleman for a girl kahit gentlewoman ako! Three, I learned how to eat balut for someone who loves it. Kulang na lang mangitlog ako. May ganon?”
Winning battle
Iza Calzado graces the newest Flawless billboard as its latest endorser for the aesthetic clinic’s new weight loss line—the perfect representative, having been very open about her battle with obesity in the past. She has surely “weighed and see (the awesome results).”
