WHEN Gerald Anderson publicly admitted that he stopped pursuing Sarah Geronimo in September last year, the singer-actress’ mother, Divine, bore the brunt and drew the ire of fans and kibitzers alike.
Talked about in show biz circles as being overprotective—controlling, even—of her daughter’s career and personal life, not a few speculated that it was Divine who put a stop to Sarah and Gerald’s brewing romance.
For months, the 24-year-old Kapamilya star kept mum. But it seems she has had enough.
In a recent interview on the Sunday talk show “The Buzz,” an emotional Sarah pleaded with the public to stop blaming her mom.
Nervous laughter
“Nanginginig ako(I was shaking),” Sarah quipped, then laughed nervously before continuing: “You don’t know what really happened.”
Prodded about what really happened Sarah again evaded the issue. “Perhaps in two years (I can talk about it),” she said. For now, she said repeatedly, “Tama na, huwag na (Enough, stop it).”
However, she said she would be lying if she didn’t have any regrets. “I wish I had guarded my heart and feelings better.”
Tip for suitors
She is certainly not ready for another relationship, Sarah said, but hastily added that she wasn’t closing the doors completely. “I just… don’t want history to repeat itself.”
To future suitors, a telling tip: “I want someone who won’t get tired fighting for me.” Plus, it should be understood that Divine is “part of the package.” Sarah explained: “I have a mom and dad who only want to protect me.”
