Wrestling with a horror franchise like Regal’s “Shake, Rattle and Roll” can be quite daunting for any filmmaker—even for acclaimed director Chito Roño, who is responsible for some of contemporary cinema’s high-profile thrillers “Feng Shui,” “Sukob,” and “The Healing.”
Producers Lily and Roselle Monteverde had vowed that 2011’s “Shake” was the final edition, until Roño agreed to direct all three parts of the trilogy, now dubbed “Shake, Rattle and Roll 14: The Invasion.”
“I’m entitled to one foolish decision every year and this was my last chance,” he quipped, half in earnest and half in jest. “It turned out to be an invigorating challenge.”
Roño commissioned the industry’s best writers to develop three spine-tingling stories: Ricky Lee’s “Pamana,” Rody Vera’s “Lost Command,” and Roy Iglesias’ “Unwanted.” Bayani San Diego Jr.
