Epy Quizon portrays his dad in stage musical

STA. MARIA. Versatile.

Glenn Katada, student: “If boxer Nonito Donaire is thinking of another career, he can always pursue singing. I watched him sing live on TV, and he more than passed muster. And the guy looks good, too. I’m not saying that he should transform himself into another Manny Pacquiao, by pursuing interests other than boxing. But, if I were to choose between the two, Donaire is definitely the better singer!”

Other notes:

Lyn Eleazar, office employee: “News about Epy Quizon joining the cast of ‘Katy’ must be music to his dad Dolphy’s ear (wherever the comedian may be), especially since the popular stage musical on the life of Katy dela Cruz is about bodabil, where the legendary comic began his career as a performer.

“It’s exciting to note that the younger Quizon is portraying his beloved father in the musical, which will be restaged at CCP next month. After all, who could portray the comedy king better than his similarly gifted son?”

Belen Duran, televiewer: “Jodi Sta. Maria, who’s noted for her dramatic portrayals in film and on television, is just as effective in comedy—as she proves on ‘Be Careful with My Heart.’ Unlike many comedians, the versatile actress is effortless and natural, and she doesn’t try too hard. She doesn’t have to play dumb or use a phoney regional accent to be funny!”
