Tail Tales

Jose Javier Reyes

I named my dogs Phil and James after my favorite Azkals (soccer players). But the politically correct term now is “aspin” or “asong Pinoy,” especially since these beautiful canines are not “dogs of the streets.” Phil and James are about one and a half years old and they’ve been with me for more than a year.

“Talentadong Pinoy” director Rich Ilustre led me to the animal shelter of PAWS, where I found Phil and James.

After visiting PAWS, I realized that breed is insignificant.

Dogs give us unconditional love. Dogs are like people. They have individual personalities. But unlike humans, they demand so little and give so much.

That is why my weekends are always spent in the suburbs where I can happily bond with Phil and James. At home, there is always time for long walks and a feast of their favorite dog biscuits.

The saying I heard years ago was confirmed: “The more I know about men, the more I love my dogs.”
