Reduce ticket prices, please

REVILLAME. Gears up for ratings battle.

Gil Manalang, film enthusiast: “One of the reasons why our film industry is ‘alive’ only during the annual Metro Manila Film Festival and ‘dead’ in the months before it is the high cost of admission in movie houses. While I understand the present economic realities, perhaps film distributors, producers and theater operators can consider lowering the price of tickets to an affordable rate.

“This will attract more people to watch movies, especially those from lower-income groups. Cineplexes reduce ticket prices at P20 when they reshow old films, and the movie is attracting viewers, mostly students. Why can’t they at least lower the price of admission for new films?”

Other notes:

Glecy Lingcong, housewife: “The Christmas IDs of our major TV stations show who among them has the most popular stars. Except for a few names, TV5 either has actors who have lost their stellar luster or had been sidelined by relative inactivity. I wonder why Sharon Cuneta isn’t in the Kapatid network’s station ID, along with Nora Aunor and Willie Revillame?”

Exciting development

Arian Tomas, student: “The plan to pit ‘Wil Time Big Time’ against ‘Eat Bulaga’ and ‘It’s Showtime’ starting early next year is an exciting development. Will Revillame’s variety program give its competitors a run for their high ratings? There was a time when Willie’s show on ABS-CBN threatened to dislodge ‘Eat Bulaga’s’ supremacy on its timeslot. Let’s see if he can duplicate that feat!”

Lou Laguardia, Taiwan-based English professor: “‘Himala’ is the best film of Nora Aunor’s youth, while ‘Thy Womb’ is tops in her mature years as an actress. To Nora’s bashers, please take a look at this acting genius and feel proud that she’s part of our film industry. We need not excuse her past missteps, but let’s honor her contributions to our movie industry.”
