MANILA, Philippines — The duet, had it pushed through, would have been a hit even before it could be recorded.
But it didn’t happen as actress Heart Evangelista failed to convince her beau, Senator Francis “Chiz” Escudero, to sing the popular “Bakit Ngayon Ka Lang” with her.
Evangelista, who was present Wednesday night at the party Escudero threw for the media in Manila, prodded the senator to do the song with her, saying, “Bakit ngayon ka lang ba [Why did you come only now]?”
It was Evangelista, who was first called to sing the duet with a reporter but in the middle of the song, approached Escudero, who was sitting with the media and convinced him to join her.

“Chiz, go!” she told Escudero.
“Kung kay Kris Aquino, kakanta ka. Sa akin hindi ka kakanta [If it was with Kris Aquino, you would sing but you won’t sing with me]?” said the actress, who was on her knees, begging the senator to join her.
Kris Aquino is the youngest sister of President Benigno Aquino III and host of ABS-CBN’s morning show “Kris TV.”
It was in Aquino’s show where Escudero admitted last October 5 that Evangelista is his girlfriend.
Despite the prodding, Evangelista failed to convince the senator to sing with her.
