Maguindanao film wins in Indonesia fest

Maguindanaoan filmmaker Gutierrez Mangansakan II’s “Cartas de la Soledad” was chosen best Asian film at the just-concluded Jogja-Netpac Asian Film Festival held in Indonesia. Netpac stands for the (international) Network for the Promotion of Asian Cinema.

Jury chairman Zhang Wenjie, director of the Singapore Museum Cinematheque, commends the film as a “thought-provoking, ambitious inquiry into the colonial past… and the director’s personal history through an allegorical tale of physical and psychological imprisonment.”—Bayani San Diego Jr.
