DIÑO. Cast as a dance protégé in “In Nomine Matris.”

Liza Diño patiently waited for two years for her Flamenco-inspired starrer, “In Nomine Matris,” to be shown on the big screen. Helmed by Will Fredo, it competes in the indie section of the Metro Manila Film Festival this month. It also stars Biboy Ramirez, Al Gatmaitan, Leo Rialp, Tami Monsod (in her screen debut), and Flamenco master Clara Ramona.

In the movie, Diño plays Mara, a dance protégé who aspires for the principal role in a stage production. She shares, “It’s inspired by real situations involving Flamenco dancers. I want to capture the love and passion for the art form vis-a-vis Mara’s complexity as a person.”

The LA-based beauty queen-turned-actress, owes much of her confidence to  theater. She recalls, “I started with Dulaang UP, where directors pushed me beyond my limits.”
