The Philippine Daily Inquirer’s first-ever Popcorn Night Monday will feature a special invitational screening of Manuel Conde’s 1950 masterpiece “Genghis Khan,” considered the “Holy Grail” in Filipino film archiving.
Believed to be long lost, “Genghis Khan” was found in the Venice film fest archives early this year and was digitally restored—a legacy project spearheaded by the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP). The restored work premiered last September at the Venice fest.
The FDCP initiative is an assurance that present and future generations will be able to appreciate the movie’s breathtaking images that impressed critics all over the world.
The new “Genghis Khan” had its Philippine debut at the SM Mall of Asia two months ago. A special screening was held at the Sineng Pambansa in Davao last week. Next stop is the Moviemov: Italian Cinema Now fest on December 8 in Greenbelt, Makati.
