RONNIE Lazaro in “Boundary”
It’s curiously “serendipitous,” Benito Bautista said, that his indie film “Boundary” will open at the Shangri-La mall on December 5, at the start of the Christmas season.
“Boundary,” which has won awards and accolades here and abroad, is set during the holidays and follows a taxi driver (Ronnie Lazaro) who inadvertently picks up a mysterious passenger (Raymond Bagatsing) with less-than cheery plans.
With this edgy drama, Bautista said, he meant to “discuss the contradictions of Christmas—a season to celebrate but also a time when some people feel the most desperate.”
He added that after screenings in Bangalore (India), Guam, San Diego and Chicago (United States), it was only fitting for “Boundary” to come home.
“I’m really excited because this film tells a thoroughly Pinoy story,” he pointed out. “I want to somehow change the way our audiences look at their own existence and share with them a different kind of cinematic experience.”
He looks at “Boundary” as an attempt to make sense of “the economics of the taxi industry, along with the political undertones in our society. It’s also a metaphor for our existence—as we all have our own ‘boundaries’ to meet.”
