Cast members of the 1990s Philippine sitcom “Ober da Bakod” reunited for an intimate dinner, more than two decades after the show ended.

Angelu de Leon and Leo Martinez gave fans a glimpse of the reunion through their respective social media pages on Saturday, Oct. 3, sharing photos of the cast members posing together during the gathering.

“Mga batang 90s, pakihulaan nga po kung anong show kami magkakasama. Sino kaya ang nakakaalala? Nostalgia overload!” de Leon wrote in her caption.

“Mga Batang 90s, naaalala niyo pa ba kami?” Martinez wrote in his own post.

Also present at the reunion were Janno Gibbs, Anjo Yllana, Donita Rose, Gelli de Belen, Malou de Guzman, Donna Cruz, Arnell Ignacio and Ariel Ureta.

“Ober da Bakod,” aired on GMA from 1992 to 1997 under the direction of Ureta. The sitcom starred Gibbs as Mokong Dayukdok, Yllana as Bubuli Dayukdok and Martinez as Don Robert.

De Belen, Rose and de Guzman joined its supporting cast, while De Leon and Cruz were part of the show’s recurring cast as Kuting and Muning, respectively.

The sitcom revolved around the comedic conflicts and antics of its characters, particularly the rival families portrayed by the cast. Its popularity eventually led to two film adaptations, “Ober da Bakod: The Movie” in 1994 and “Ober da Bakod 2 (Da Treasure Adbentyur)” in 1996.

The first film followed the two feuding families as they separately attempted to leave their problems behind, only to end up stranded on the same island after separate accidents. The second film centered on the families’ treasure-hunting adventure.

During a 2020 virtual reunion with his former co-stars, Gibbs described the show as a “legend” among sitcoms of its time, recalling that it was consistently successful in the ratings during its run.

Yllana, meanwhile, previously expressed regret over leaving the sitcom, saying in a 2023 interview that he sometimes wondered what more they could have accomplished together had he stayed with the show.

The program’s cast also received recognition during its run. De Guzman won the PMPC Star Award for Best Comedy Actress in 1996 for her work in “Ober da Bakod.” /edv
