‘AA’ victory party
I had so much fun at the victory party of TV5’s “Artista Academy” grand winners, Sophie Albert and Vin Abrenica, at the old Cojuangco residence in Dasmariñas Village last Sunday.
The place was filled with “SoVin” memorabilia, which set the festive mood. Aljur Abrenica dropped by to show his support for his brother Vin.
Isn’t there any brewing sibling rivalry? “None at all,” said Vin. “We go through scripts together. It’s like we have our own little acting workshop, with Kuya as my guide.”
What about the danger of falling for the same girl? “Out of respect for each other, of course one would give way, should that happen,” he said. “Although, when I wasn’t in show biz yet, I was really hurt because my girlfriend back then kept introducing me as Aljur’s brother. It turned out, she said ‘yes’ to me only because she wanted to get close to Kuya. We’ve broken up.”
GF material?
Is Sophie girlfriend material? “From the start of ‘AA,’ she was my crush,” Vin revealed. “But we both would want to focus on our careers and develop teamwork so good breaks won’t go to waste. We hope to be like John Lloyd Cruz and Bea Alonzo, who have perfect chemistry even if they are not a couple.”
If Sophie had her way, she would downplay her Cojuangco lineage. “When I joined ‘AA,’ I didn’t tell anyone about it,” she said. “The clan has been so supportive since Day One. I’m closest to Mikee.”
Most contestants in talent searches join because they need to help their family and end up being the breadwinners. In Sophie’s case, show biz is something she really wants to get into.
But life hasn’t always been a bed of roses for the 22-year-old charmer. Her dad has been in coma for 11 years. “It hasn’t been easy,” sighed Sophie. “But seeing how my dad is holding on gives me strength to go for my dreams so he and my mom will be proud of me. When I won ‘AA,’ tears rolled down his (her father’s) cheeks. That’s why I know he’s happy for me even if he can’t speak.”
Supportive Guy
Nora Aunor is ever so supportive of her special friend, John Rendez. She sent me this text: “The CD of John, ‘Metaldog There Can Only Be One’ (PolyEast Records) is now out in the market. Please tell your readers to get a copy. My fave cuts in the album are ‘Kembotan,’ ‘Plastik Pala’ and the carrier single. No plans yet of doing an album together though it would be a novelty for me to do rap/hiphop. (Ha-ha). I can’t imagine!”
If and when Ate Guy tries these, that would be the ultimate “Himala!”
