Aiko Melendez opens up about thyroid battle: ‘Getting sick is really expensive’

Aiko Melendez has opened up about her ongoing battle with a thyroid condition, urging the public to prioritize regular checkups, as “getting sick is really expensive.”
Melendez revealed in a Facebook post on Thursday, July 16, that she has been dealing with thyroid problems since she was a teenager but had discontinued her medication after some time.
“I’ve actually been dealing with thyroid problems since my teenage years. Back then, I was treated and took my medications, but like many people, I made the mistake of thinking that once I felt better and the symptoms were gone, I could stop taking them on my own,” she wrote.

The Quezon City councilor noted that thyroid disorders do not always present obvious symptoms so it’s important to not skip doctor’s advice.
“If there’s one thing I’ve learned from this journey, it’s this: listen to your body, don’t skip your checkups, and never stop your medication without your doctor’s advice,” she said.
“Sharing my experience in the hope that it encourages others to take their thyroid health seriously. If my story helps even one person avoid the same mistake, then this journey has a greater purpose,” the actress concluded the post.
Melendez earlier documented the second day of what she called her “thyroid journey,” revealing that she underwent a thyroid scan after having a biopsy performed by an endocrinologist
“Based on Dr. Allan’s initial assessment, my thyroid nodules appear to be benign. While that’s very reassuring, I’m still praying that the official biopsy results will confirm that everything is indeed okay,” she captioned her photos at the hospital.
The actress-politician explained that medical procedures cost a fortune, so it’s important to take care of one’s health.
“Thank You Lord Jesus for my health card that I didn’t have to spend any single penny. Getting sick is really expensive. So take care of our health,” she said.
