Filipino director wins in NY fest

Filipino filmmaker Will Fredo won best director at the International Film Festival Manhattan for his work in “The Caregiver.” Fredo was the only Filipino winner named during the ceremony held on Friday in New York. Fredo said the honor was “unexpected.” He described “The Caregiver” as a “personal film.” Fredo, Gregory Macaraeg and Fernell Cruz’s Hubo Productions also received the Mount Hope Project Award for the film “Ganap na Babae.” Bayani San Diego Jr.
