Taylor Swift recalls childhood as she drops ‘Toy Story’ song ‘I Knew It, I Knew You’
Taylor Swift released her newest track “I Knew It, I Knew You” written for “Toy Story 5,” fondly reflecting on the childhood memories she holds as a “Toy Story kid.”
The multi-awarded singer-songwriter dropped the song, showing a clip of her younger self dressed in a cowgirl costume inspired by the animated film franchise’s cowgirl rag doll Jessie via her social media pages on Friday, June 5.
“Writing this song felt like a musical departure and coming home at the same time. Creating something for Jessie was a new challenge and also felt like second nature all at once. And being a ‘Toy Story’ kid from the age of 5 til now… is an adventure I plan to be on, to infinity and beyond,” she said, making a reference to the catchphrase of film character Buzz Lightyear.
Swift then thanked “Toy Story” director-co-writer Andrew Stanton as well as composer Randy Newman for their works. She also acknowledged singer-songwriter Jack Antonoff, who co-wrote “I Knew It, I Knew You.”
“We wrote this with so much adoration for these characters that made us laugh and helped us learn lessons and think outside the backyard all throughout our childhoods,” she said.
“I Knew It, I Knew You” was released over a week ahead of “Toy Story 5” premiere on June 17.
“I remembered I loved you / Came back when it mattered, I saw you / Standing there in the light of the window wearing that same smile / Man, it’s been a while / But I knew it, I knew you / I knew it, I knew you,” a part of the song goes. /ra
