Roi Vinzon, son Anton to share screen for first time in sports drama ‘Kamao’

Veteran actor Roi Vinzon expressed excitement and pride as he finally gets to work alongside his son, Anton Vinzon, in the upcoming sports drama series “Kamao.”
The series held its official press conference on Monday, May 18, in Quezon City, where Roi did not hold back to express his admiration for his son’s acting abilities.
“Mas magaling siya sakin, hindi hamak (He is far better than me, by a lot),” the celebrity father said. “Hindi ko siya masiyadong tinuruan, to tell you the truth, (I didn’t really teach him much, to tell you the truth).”

Roi is best known for his role as retired General Armando Soriano in the Philippine television series “My Husband’s Lover,” one of the country’s first gay-themed primetime dramas.
Meanwhile, Anton Vinzon — who gained attention for his performance in “Mga Batang Riles” and his stint in “Pinoy Big Brother: Celebrity Collab Edition 2.0” — takes on his first solo lead role in “Kamao.”
In the series, Anton plays Makmak, an amateur boxer who dreams of becoming a champion. However, his biggest battles take place outside the ring as he gets entangled in the lies and controversies surrounding his former boxing champion father, played by Neil Ryan Sese, and endures the strict and unbending rules of his grandfather, portrayed by Roi.
For Anton, the project marks both a major responsibility and a deeply personal milestone.
“Malaking responsibilidad na mabigyan ng gantong project (It’s a big responsibility to be given a project like this),” he said. “And hindi mawawala syempre yung pagod, yung takot, yung kaba, yung challenge. Pero para sa akin, nangingibabaw pa talaga yung kasiyahan ko sa ginagawa ko.”
(Of course, the fatigue, fear, nervousness, and challenges are always there. But for me, what stands out most is the happiness I feel doing this.)
Anton admitted feeling nervous about working with his father for the first time on-screen.
“Siyempre, para sa akin, kinakabahan (Of course, I’m nervous),” Anton said. “Kasi talagang makakasama ko talaga yung tatay ko sa isang series. And first pa (Because I will really be working with my father in a series — and it’s our first time).”
The 18-year-old actor added that the role is his way of paying tribute to his father.
“Para sa akin talaga, tribute ko po talaga ito para kay Papa. Sana pagkatapos ng pilot, maging proud siya sa akin (For me, this is truly my tribute to Papa. I hope after the pilot episode airs, he will be proud of me,” he expressed.
“Kamao” is set to premiere on GMA Afternoon Prime on May 25. /ra
