Bea Borres draws mixed reactions after ‘I’ve lost hope in PH’ remark

Bea Borres seemingly earned the ire of some netizens after she said she has lost hope in the country as well as the drive to speak out against government corruption.
The actress-content creator spoke about this through her Facebook page on Thursday, May 14.
“After using my platforms to speak up against corruption, I’m sorry but I have lost hope in our country. I’ve been speaking up against corruption in our country ever since before, but ikaw na lang talaga mawawalan ng gana because the reality is, no one is being held accountable,” she said, noting how she even received death threats for airing her opinions.
“I love the Philippines, but our government is a joke,” she further stated. “No matter how much y’all cancel these nepo babies online, their lives still go on. So don’t cancel me just because I follow them. I’ve honestly lost hope in our country because of the government.”
Borres further stressed in a separate post, “I’m a public figure and I have a daughter. I’m not gonna risk my life for a government like ours. It’s just not worth it for me ANYMORE. Beyond the internet, y’all should go outside and kayo na lang maiinis on how misinformed people are.”
She nonetheless noted that she still tries to help in her own way, using her own money to “alleviate the suffering” of her fellow Filipinos.
While some agreed with Borres and thanked her for her efforts, her sentiment did not sit well with other netizens, who advised the celebrity not to “discourage” people from fighting for the country.
“As much as I empathize with you and what you’ve gone through for speaking up, I advise you not to discourage people from fighting and hoping for a better country,” one Facebook user said in the comments section. “It is true that most of these politicians are not being held accountable, but as long as we are moving towards the pursuit of justice and good governance, change will happen little by little. So yes, your situation and sentiments are valid, but do not discourage people, because there is still hope.”

Another comment read, “Then don’t discourage the people who still choose to speak up and fight for change. You may not say it directly but when someone with a huge platform says they’ve lost hope and basically implies nothing changes anyway, it discourages the people who are still fighting and trying to hold others accountable. You can afford to lose hope but others don’t have that luxury. See, the corruption you’re tired of? That’s something others don’t get to walk away from every single day.”

Borres also became a trending topic on X, with some arguing how she was “entitled” and “out of touch.”
“Bea Borres, if you think this is the right time to be entitled, THINK AGAIN,” one X user wrote. “Not everyone has the same financial capacity as you, so saying that speaking up isn’t enough anymore is such a privilege take. Speaking up MATTERS and it’s POWERFUL.”

“I genuinely can’t fathom how out of touch and self important some people can be in moments like this,” another netizen said.

While Borres did not directly respond to the criticisms against her, she addressed her “entitled bashers” who, she said, are only looking for reasons to hate on her.
“Y’all are so funny. This is why I don’t wanna speak up on things anymore [because] y’all have a lot to say,” she said. /ra
