Wency Cornejo reveals he ‘stopped breathing’ during knee surgery

Wency Cornejo said he is now recovering after he recently underwent arthroscopic knee surgery during which he had a near-death experience.
The singer-composer narrated his recent health scare while showing photos of himself at the operating room of a hospital, through his Facebook page on Saturday, Feb. 14.
“Ngayon pa lang nag si-sink in that I could’ve died the other day when I had my arthroscopic knee surgery,” he said in the caption. “My anesthesiologist said I stopped breathing while under and he had to pump me with oxygen.”
“Medyo surreal ang feeling. Thank you Doc Andro for keeping me alive,” he added.
Cornejo did not immediately state why he had to undergo a knee operation.
In a separate post, Cornejo, a staunch supporter of former president Rodrigo Duterte, then lamented the apparent ill-wishes he received from people who do not share the same political beliefs as him.
“Imagine trying to stay as positive as you could while recovering from a near-death experience then coming across comments trying to put you down. I am so fortunate to belong to GenX otherwise baka nalugmok na ako sa depression,” he wrote.
“Have we as a society really sunk so low as to have lost our empathy and humanity because of politics?” he continued.
Cornejo also made mention of fellow singers and friends Catherine Chua and Bayang Barrios, saying they still respect him despite their differing beliefs.
“I sincerely wish that we learn to see the humanity in everyone. Alam kong mahirap gawin given the kind of world we live in today pero as my mother always says, hope is eternal, and so I continue to hope,” he added, referring to his broadcast journalist mother Mel Tiangco. /ra
