Jun Robles Lana asks for proper name credit amid new projects

Director Jun Robles Lana has appealed to the public to use his full professional name in crediting him as it is his way of honoring the sacrifices of his mother. 

Lana recently took to X (formerly Twitter) to express gratitude for the public’s support for his upcoming projects, which include the stage play “About Us But Not About Us,” the musical adaptation of “Die Beautiful,” and his forthcoming film “Sisa.”

However, the director noted that some recent write-ups still refer to him as “Jun Lana,” a name he only used early in his career until he made a “conscious choice” to add “Robles” to his full name. 

“‘Robles’ is my mother’s name. She single-handedly raised me and unwaveringly supported my love for writing at a time when it wasn’t the most practical choice to support our family. Despite the complexities of our relationship, I chose to carry her name into every frame I compose and every script I write. It is my way of honoring her through my work,” he expressed.

Lana acknowledged that the addition may seem minor to others, but it is still as important as the correct way of using people’s pronouns. 

“It has been over a decade since I began billing myself this way, and while it might seem like a small addition to some, it means the world to me. We live in a time where we’ve finally learned to respect people’s pronouns because we understand that identity is sacred. Our names are no different,” he explained. 

“As I move into this next chapter of storytelling across the stage, the screen, and the page, I’d be grateful if you could join me in honoring that identity,” concluded the director. 

Vice Ganda, who worked with Lana in the Metro Manila Film Festival entries “And The Breadwinner Is” and “Call Me Mother,” expressed his support for the director by re-posting the post on his X account, writing, “Jun Robles Lana [heart]” in all capital letters. 

Lana previously made headlines after he pointed out that the high cost of movie tickets nowadays has made Filipinos turn away from watching movies in cinemas. /ra
