Beloved musical ‘Hamilton’ heading to cinemas for limited run

Hamil-fans are in for a treat as the award-winning musical “Hamilton” will be screened in cinemas in celebration of its 10th anniversary.
Walt Disney Studios announced that “Hamilton” — a musical based on the 2004 biography “Alexander Hamilton” by Ron Chernow — will hit cinemas for “one week only” starting October 1.
“You asked. You waited. For a LIMITED TIME ONLY, #Hamilton finally comes to Philippine cinemas starting October 1. Don’t throw away your shot,” the production company’s post read.
The hit musical will be shown in select cinemas in different cities across the country.
Marking its 10th year, “Hamilton’s” creator Lin-Manuel Miranda announced the theatrical release of the musical in an episode of “The Tonight Show” last August. The musical started screening in cinemas in the US, Puerto Rico, and it made rounds in select countries.
The theatrical release of “Hamilton” was originally set for October 2021. However, Disney paid $75 million for worldwide movie rights the year prior, according to a report from Variety.
Blending elements of theater, hip-hop, and pop, “Hamilton” was first staged at The Public Theater in New York in January 2015. It went on to win several awards, including Best Musical at the 70th Tony Awards.
A Philippine staging of “Hamilton” took place at The Theatre in Solaire from September 17 to November 26 of last year. /edv
