Angeline Quinto: Defying the odds!
There is the old saying “Try and try again…until you succeed”.
That is how I want to describe the determination of one of the best young female artists we have now, Angeline Quinto.
I still remember the very first time I heard of her was on the talent search show “Star for a Night” on IBC 13—years ago, around the early 2000’s, if I remember correctly.
Admittedly, I don’t remember now how she looked back then. After some time, when I found out that there was an album release of the songs performed by the various contestants of that talent show, I purchased it.
I enjoyed Angeline Quinto’s rendition of an Afterimage classic “Habang May Buhay”. That became my favorite track of the cd. And I would end up comparing it to the original version performed by Afterimage.
Angeline’s own rendition can definitely stand up to the original version and is good in its own right. Fast forward a couple of years later. We all know the winner of that “Star for a Night” competition was Sarah Geronimo.
And although her career didn’t immediately take off, as we all had expected, it eventually did when she transferred to a different station where her career grew into stellar proportion. But I believe that particular batch of performers for that “Star for a Night” competition had more than just a few promising artists. In fact, there were a number of them and, in my opinion, Angeline Quinto was the “dark horse”.
At one point when Sarah’s career was building up, I did wonder what would happen to Angeline as it almost felt like that she was dropped from the radar and her name was forgotten in the meantime. But upon doing my research about Angeline Quinto, I learned that she never gave up chasing her dream to be a pop star. Judging by the number of competitions she joined on air—and who knows how many more she had joined off screen and in different regional competitions—it was almost a guaranty that she would inevitably win the big one in one of these competitions on air.
And she did. Now I don’t want to sound like a statistics sheet or a mere rehash from fan websites. These are my views as a music aficionado. I see so much potential in Angeline Quinto. She has the singing ability, the looks, and the mass appeal needed to make an impact. The recent rise of Angeline Quinto among the ranks of female artists is important and very much needed because the OPM industry will always need new blood, new faces, and new singers/artists that the youth clamor for and in some way, can look up to. If there is one very positive trait that I see Angeline Quinto possesses, it is—and I shall say it again—DETERMINATION.
Not everyone has that and considering how difficult it is to make it in this industry, she did accomplish breaking through to the mainstream and hopefully, her star shines brighter for many more years to come. It has been some time now that a new artist has made as much of an impact as she has and it is hard to believe that she is only 22 years old. There is so much more she can do. She is still young and the road ahead in life for her may not always be “pot-hole” free. But she has a good support group around her and her fans will always be there. The question is: can Angeline Quinto be the best in her age group in their 20’s now who are widely recognized among the current crop of artists? Time will tell.
