Sofronio Vasquez continues to relish the success of his “The Voice USA” win, as he is set to release an EP produced by his coach and mentor Michael Bublé.
Vasquez revealed the details of the EP during a recent media huddle ahead of his appearance at the “Bravo! Manila” concert, when asked if he and Bublé have any projects in the works.
“I’m excited to share that Michael Bublé is producing my EP. We did some of the songs already. In our recent conversation, a duet Christmas song featuring me and him will be first. We’re [also] doing an English-Tagalog song,” he said.
The singer also shared that the untitled song will feature lyrics written by him in Filipino, which was done through consultations with songwriters and musicians around Manila. “I’m not that well-versed in writing lyrics, [but] we loved it. And it is part of the EP,” he said.
The EP will also feature collaborations with renowned composer-songwriter David Foster and Paul Anka, with further details to be shared on social media in the coming days. Five months have already been recorded as of this writing.
“May isang song [din] na isusulat talaga ni Michael Bublé for me. Target release is before ‘ber months, probably before September. Tapos na kami sa Christmas song, I think that’s the first song na ire–release namin,” he said.

Vasquez also shared that a separate EP with ABS-CBN Music creative director is also in the works, with recordings being done in New York.

What Sofronio learned from his mentor
Vasquez also hopes that Bublé will return to the Philippines so they can perform onstage together. He has been convincing the Canadian singer-songwriter to come back, although the latter said he wants to perform with him on a stage that will be “magical” for them.
“Kinukulit ko talaga siya, ‘Mag-guest ka naman sa ibang concert ko’ pero ayaw niya talaga (I keep on convincing him to come here. ‘Please guest in my concerts.’ But he doesn’t want to). He said, ‘When I come there, it has to be very particular and magical for both of us. It’s going to be big for sure,’” he said.
When asked about the most unforgettable lesson Vasquez learned from Bublé in his “The Voice” days, he said the latter reminded him that there’s nothing wrong with toning things down once in a while.
“May mga few times kaming nagre-rehearse ni Bublé as my coach, sinabi niya sa’kin, ‘Sofronio, are you ready for a comment na honest?’ Yes naman. He said, ‘Doesn’t mean you can, you should,’” he recalled. “Dahil nag-comment siya nang gan’un, nag-aalangan akong i-explore [at first], pero na-realize ko na tama rin siya. Kaya sila tumatagal sa industriya kasi tama ang ginagawa nila [and natulungan ako] in learning.”
(During the times I rehearsed with Bublé as my coach, he told me, “Sofronio, are you ready for an honest comment?” “Of course,” I said. He said, “Doesn’t mean you can, you should.” After receiving this comment, I was doubtful to explore at first. But I realized that he’s right. He lasted long in the industry because he’s doing things right, and he helped me by learning from him.)

Taking the “Fever” singer’s reminder to heart, the Star Magic artist said he eventually realized the difference in his performances since then. “I feel na naging mas effective siya. Mas nakita ko ang difference.”
“Personally, minsan lang kasi tayo nabibigyan ng opportunity to perform. And kapag nabibigyan, kapag bibirit ka, bibirit ka,” he continued. “Pero na-realize ko na dapat dahan dahanin mo para meron silang aabangan in the next performance at bibilangin nila na ano ang gagawin niya, that makes it more appealing.”
(I feel that it was more effective. I was able to notice the difference. When you’re given the opportunity to perform and go all out, you go all out. But I realized that there’s nothing wrong with taking things one at a time, so people will have something to look forward to in your next performance. That makes it more appealing.)
Vasquez, along with Jed Madela and Bituin Escalante, is set to headline the “Bravo! Manila” concert, which will be held on Aug. 23 at The Theatre at Solaire. /ra
