Cristy Fermin posts P48,000 bail in libel case

Cristy Fermin has posted bail amounting to P48,000 in connection with the libel case filed against her by actress Bea Alonzo.

The veteran showbiz columnist showed via her online show “Cristy Ferminute” on Thursday, July 31, the court order in which Quezon City Regional Trial Court Branch 93 Presiding Judge Cherry Chiara Hernando recalled the arrest warrant issued against Fermin.

Aside from Fermin, her fellow host Wendell Alvarez has also posted bail for the same case. Rommel Villamor, their other co-host who is facing the same charge as well, was still processing his bail at the time Fermin’s show aired.

Fermin said she was surprised upon being informed about the warrant of arrest against her, stressing that her camp did not receive a resolution from the court.

“This might be due to the series of weather disturbances that recently hit the country,” she said.

Recalling the past libel complaints she faced, she continued, “I had always surrendered voluntarily without waiting for the issuance of an arrest warrant… This is the first time that we did not receive a court resolution. That is why we were shocked.”

Fermin then assured that all is well and that her avid listeners need not worry about her.

Alonzo lodged a libel case against Fermin in May 2024, citing the “false, malicious, and damaging information” the showbiz columnist broadcast via her online show. /ra
