Will Ashley and Sassa Gurl were announced as the new cast members of “Bar Boys: After School,” the sequel to the hit 2017 film directed by Kip Oebanda.
The actors’ casting was announced on the film’s Facebook page earlier this week. The “Pinoy Big Brother” housemate will portray a working student named Arvin, while the “Balota” star will take on a “serious role.”
As disclosed by the film’s creators, Ashley’s character — as well as his unnamed OFW mother — are the breadwinners of an extended family while balancing his responsibilities in law school and his day job.
“He started out as the ‘gifted child.’ Talented, smart, and exceptional. He could have been more if he had more. Unfortunately, the world is not fair to those who don’t have the money. Instead, upon reaching law school, he falls behind,” the post read.
It was also revealed that Ashley auditioned for the role of Arvin before entering the “Pinoy Big Brother” house.
“Despite his situation, [Arvin] tries to remain strong, determined to give himself and his family a shot at a better future. Will Ashley auditioned for this role two weeks before entering the PBB house, and he is now part of the Big 4,” it said.
On the other hand, the name and backstory of Sassa Gurl’s character have yet to be announced. It was nonetheless shared that she had been training in multiple fields to prepare for her character.
“She has been training in acting, English, logic, public speaking and rhetoric to play a role that is serious and far from her usual characters. The inspiration behind the character is a class valedictorian of a prestigious law school,” the post read.
Ashley and Sassa will be joined by Glaiza de Castro, Bryce Eusebio, Therese Malvar, and Benedix Ramos in the film.
Meanwhile, Carlo Aquino, Rocco Nacino, Enzo Pineda, Kean Cipriano, and Odette Khan will reprise their roles.
“Bar Boys,” which originally starred Aquino, Nacino, Pineda, and Cipriano, tells the story of four best friends who dreamt of getting into law school and becoming lawyers. However, their dreams reach a standstill when Joshua (Cipriano) didn’t qualify for law school.
The film was a massive success and has become a cult classic. Oebanda confirmed that a sequel was in the works in October 2024, however, its premiere date and storyline have yet to be announced. /edv
