Daisy Edgar-Jones has secured a role in the upcoming film adaptation of Jane Austen’s 1811 novel “Sense and Sensibility,” Focus Features has confirmed.
Edgar-Jones teased the news on Instagram on Wednesday, June 12, in a post of her holding the book, adding a pair of eyes, glancing slightly to the left in the caption, an emoji “serves to draw attention to something the user wants to highlight.”
In the comments section, the 27-year-old actress also hinted at her upcoming high-profile literary role by responding with the same pair of eyes emoji to a netizen’s comment about her playing Elinor Dashwood.

Focus Features stated in an Instagram post that the upcoming adaptation is set to be directed by Georgia Oakley, with a screenplay adapted by Diana Reid.
The filming is scheduled to begin next month, marking the novel’s 250th anniversary year. Additional casting and the release date are still under wraps.
Set in early 19th-century England, “Sense and Sensibility” follows the Dashwood sisters, Elinor and Marianne, as they confront financial ruin after their father’s death.
Since Austen’s tale first appeared in print in 1811, it has inspired at least seven screen and stage versions, including Ang Lee’s acclaimed feature starring Emma Thompson, Kate Winslet, Hugh Grant, and Alan Rickman.

The 1995 version is often called the “gold standard” of Austen screen adaptations, with Thompson both writing and starring as Elinor. The film earned $135 million globally with a $16 million budget.
The film garnered seven Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture. Thompson won Best Adapted Screenplay for “Sense and Sensibility” and won Best Actress for her role in “Howards End,” making her the first person to win Oscars for both acting and writing.
Meanwhile, Edgar-Jones first captured attention with her breakout role in the TV series “Normal People” (2020) opposite Paul Mescal. She then appeared in “Where the Crawdads Sing” (2022), “Fresh” (2022), and Twisters (2024). /edv
