Beauty queen-actress Reign Parani is not closing her doors to pageantry anytime soon, although she wants to ensure that her pageant comeback will be done with a purpose.

Parani said she still has plans to join pageants during the “Love at First Spike” media con when asked about the topic. Even before the question was given to her, she had already been complimented on how her answers were fit for a beauty queen.

“Thank you so much for thinking that way. Of course, may plans pa po (I still have plans),” she said, while addressing the compliments about her potential to represent the Philippines in an international tilt.

“But as I grow older, I realize that there’s so much more intention to everything that you do. I’m doing everything I can to join pageants with purpose and with organizations I trust,” she said. “Sasali pa tayo ulit. Hopefully, ire-represent [ko] ang Pilipinas in the future (I’ll join again. Hopefully, I get to represent the Philippines in the future). Who knows?”

For now, the beauty queen-actress is focusing on her acting career, which she considers to be her “first love.”

“Before that, I’d love to act. It was my first love before performing and anything else. I’m glad that I’m back, and I got an opportunity to be back,” she said.

First lead role

In “Love at First Spike,” Parani will take on the role of Farrah Salcedo, a headstrong school athlete of her school’s girls’ volleyball team. She soon finds herself in a love triangle with Uno Santillan (Emilio Daez) and Jared Aragon (Sean Tristan).

“This is my first lead role in a series after almost a decade in the industry. I waited so long, honestly. It’s really big for me. It means so much to me, especially since I used to play volleyball [during] my elementary years,” she said.

Among the highlights of the coming-of-age drama is the love triangle between the leads, with Farrah and Jared in some sort of a rivalry for Uno’s heart, as well as the stories of its characters who are part of the LGBTQIA+ community.

Working on “Love at First Spike” taught Parani the importance of being a “responsible ally” of the LGBTQIA+ community. “It’s much more than learning what other people want to be called or the definition of being an ally of the LGBTQIA+ community,” she said.

“I’ve been in the beauty pageant industry where people [of all genders] are there to give colors to whatever we do,” she continued. “I wanna [dedicate] this to them. I hope that we can represent all of you, and you can find this as a comfort.”

Also part of the drama’s cast are Rain Celmar, River Joseph, Andi Abaya, Dylan Yturralde, Sky Quizon, Lance Reblando, and Bong Gonzales.

A familiar name in the pageant scene, Parani has joined local tilts in her hometown in Cavite before competing at the 2023 edition of Binibining Pilipinas. She finished as second runner-up. /edv
