Gloria Diaz has claimed in a statement that she does not like “genius answers” in pageants. A candidate in the 2025 Binibining Pilipinas competition with a genius IQ level has taken her side as well.
“I wholeheartedly agree with the statement. Because I think emotional intelligence is so much more important than just being able to sound like a genius,” Bb. Pilipinas bet Mia Golosino told INQUIRER.net in an interview.
Her first brush with fame came at a young age when she made news for posting an IQ score of 162 at just 11 years old. She exceeded the benchmark score for “genius” by 22 points, and topped Albert Einstein’s 160 score.
Agreeing with Diaz’s remark that a beauty pageant “is not an IQ contest,” Golosino said, “I think in order to connect with people, you need to have the empathy and the experience to be able to do so. It’s not just through words and what you know. It’s what you feel as well.”
Golosino studied English Literature, French, and Economics in the United Kingdom, and received an “unconditional offer” to study law at the London School of Economics. Flying to the Philippines for just a vacation, she has found herself on the beauty pageant stage.
“I decided to join pageantry after I learned how special it is here in the Philippines. I don’t think any country can match how big of a deal pageantry is here….I just guess the hype of it really excited me,” she said.
Golosino said she wants to take advantage of the platform that pageantry offers to speak about children’s eduation and early childhood development, things she is passionate about.
“I believe I’ve experienced the benefits of having parents who dedicated my early years into knowing who I am. And developing those foundational skills will lead you to be able to develop and grow as a person. I think that every Filipino child deserves to have that, too,” she said.
“I want us to draw extra special attention to spending time with children, and making sure that they develop themselves in their early years,” Golosino continued.
Having undergone rigid pageant preparations under the Aces & Queens beauty camp, Golosino is aware that people will expect a lot from her in the question-and-answer round, being known as a genius.
“I think what I aim to do is to make sure I connect to people through my heart, not just what’s in my mind. So I think at the end of the day, intelligence is nothing if it’s not matched with the heart, character and personality,” she said.
Golosino is one of the 36 ladies from across the country competing in the 2025 Bb. Pilipinas pageant. The Grand Coronation Night will be held at the Smart Araneta Coliseum at the Araneta City in Quezon City on June 15, with a telecast on TV5 in the same evening.
Bb. Pilipinas alumnae Nicole Cordoves, MJ Lastimosa, Maureen Montagne and Kylie Verzosa will host the ceremonies, which will be attended by reigning Miss International Huynh Thi Thanh Thuy from Vietnam. The “Kings of P-Pop,” SB19, will perform in the show. /ra
