Jenzen Guino might have captivated listeners with his first original song, “Rosas” — a feel-good track that captures the bliss of a couple in their honeymoon phase — but he has a lot of tracks kept in the vault, waiting to be dropped at the right time.
Guino started his music career in 2018 as a cover artist on YouTube. He might have gravitated toward OPM covers, but it took him seven years to release his own song into the world.
“Sa umpisa naman, hindi talaga mawawala ang kaba and eventually, naging confident na rin ako,” he told reporters on the sidelines of his launch event. “Nag-start po ako as an individual artist noong 2018, and hindi pa ako marunong gumawa ng songs. More on covers, and madalas na cinocover ko is OPM. Lately na lang din ako gumawa ng songs.”
(I’m only starting, so normally, the nerves won’t instantly go away. I will eventually become confident. I started as an individual artist in 2018, and I didn’t know how to write songs at the time. More on covers, and I used to cover OPM. I started writing songs lately.)
Now that he is getting the hang of being a singer-songwriter, Guino has started creating a lot of tracks, which are kept in his vault. “Marami akong [baon] na songs and ‘yung mga songs na ‘yun, hindi pa siya right time. Darating ang panahon na makilala siya (I have a lot of songs up my sleeve, but it’s not the right time to release them. The right time will come for the world to know them),” he said of his songwriting.
The rising artist shared that he has a knack for writing love songs. He is not in love with someone, but stories of romance and relationships have been a great source of inspiration.
“Actually, [I write more] of love songs. Hindi naman ako in love, pero more of love songs talaga ang nagagawa ko. Depende talaga sa mood,” he said.
“For example, nag-scroll ako sa social media and may nakita akong story about sa isang couple, nagkakaroon ako ng inspiration na mag-write ng song. Mostly [based] siya sa stories ng ibang tao pero meron din akong songs na based on my experiences din,” he continued.

Guino is aware of the pressure of being a newbie in the growing OPM industry. But the stories of his fellow artists motivate him as he goes on in his career.
“May pressure because for me, I’m just starting in the music industry. Pero ‘yung mga [OPM artists ngayon], sila ‘yung inspiration ko talaga (I feel the pressure because I’m just starting in the music industry. But I consider our OPM artists are my inspiration),” he said.
