Ahead of the anticipated release of the new “Superman” in July, DC Studios’ CEO and director James Gunn confirmed that a new “Wonder Woman” movie is also in development.

Gunn shared the news with Entertainment Weekly as he affirmed that the new film is “moving and coming,” even though it’s currently a slow process.

“We’re working on Wonder Woman. Wonder Woman’s being written right now,” he told the outlet.

FEATURED STORIES

In the first two “Wonder Woman” films, Gal Gadot starred as Diana Prince and her superhero alter ego. However, plans to make a third movie with the actress as the lead were scrapped after Gunn took on his current role.

Aside from the first two standalone films, Gadot starred as Wonder Woman in other DC movies, including “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice,” “Justice League,” and cameos in “Shazam! Fury of the Gods” and “The Flash.”

In March, Gadot made history as the first Israeli actor to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, a recognition of her contributions to the world of entertainment.

However, Gunn then stated that they haven’t cast the lead for the third “Wonder Woman” film, as he acknowledged that Superman, Batman, Supergirl, and Wonder Woman are vital to the DC brand.

“I would say that those four characters are incredibly important to us. Right now, I feel great about where two of those characters are, and then we’re dealing with the other two,” he explained.

Gunn is scheduled to visit the Philippines this June alongside producer Peter Safran and Superman stars David Corenswet as Clark Kent and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane.
