Krishnah Gravidez got to celebrate her victory as Miss World Asia with the Filipino people in a parade held over the weekend. But it almost did not push through because of the threat of a downpour.
A thunderstorm warning was raised in Metro Manila on the day of her parade at the Mall of Asia Grounds in Pasay City on June 7, and it had been drizzling before she was scheduled to appear before the people.
But the rain clouds cleared out, and Gravidez was able to wave to the throngs of well-wishers in the vicinity, wearing a pristine white dress with long sleeves and ruffled skirt, riding a convertible.
“I think it’s just God saying that nothing can stop our celebration,” she told INQUIRER.net at her homecoming press conference at the Grand Westside Hotel in Parañaque City on Monday afternoon, June 9.
“I feel like with the strong support, and love, and prayers of all of us, [the rain really did not fall. But it only rained] right after the parade,” she continued.
Gravidez also thanked everyone who showed up despite the gloomy weather, to join the festivities held outdoors. She also raised concerns about the brewing weather disturbance that has been causing downpours. “I hope everyone stays safe and dry in their homes,” she said.
The Baguio lass was proclaimed as the continental queen of Asia at the culmination of the 72nd Miss World Festival in India on May 31. Thailand’s Suchata Chuangsri inherited the Miss World crown from last year’s winner Krystyna Pyszkova.
But Gravidez shared that she had already felt like a winner before flying to India. “I was telling myself that I already have the crown, and those are the Filipinos, the hopes and dreams of the Filipinos,” she said.
“Perhaps that is why even though we didn’t get the crown, I stood my ground, that I’m very happy with this. I didn’t expect anything. But now we’re here, I brought the Miss World Asia title home. I’m very happy and very grateful,” she continued.
Gravidez also shared that during the closed-door interview, she told the panel that people had been telling her that she chose the wrong pageant to join, and she did not “fit in” the Miss World pageant.
“But what really matters is what’s within your heart, and that is to bring light and kindness. And I feel like everywhere you go, not only in pageantry, it’s really important not just to show but to truly embody kindness, and to truly show how nice we are,” she said.
However, the new Miss World Asia said that she is not done with pageantry. “I am looking forward to do a mentorship, maybe after this. Because I really want to share my experience with all the aspiring beauty queens. That’s why I can’t say that I’m closing my doors in the world of pageants,” she explained.
Gravidez also said that she is planning to go back to school and continue her Civil Engineering studies. She said she has three more years to go before earning her degree.
Recording, acting career
Miss World Philippines National Director Arnold Vegafria, meanwhile, revealed that Gravidez will still pursue a career as a recording artist. She released her rendition of “Rainbow” before the conclusion of the Miss World pageant last month.
The talent manager and national pageant organizer also said that he is in talks with movie producers from the United States for a possible acting career for Gravidez.
“Her beauty is different. They are looking for a new face, and they saw her on social media online. But you have to finish your studies first,” Vegafria told Gravidez.
The beauty queen said she already has several hosting and judging gigs in local pageants in the country, and hopes she will get to host her own TV show in the future. Gravidez said that she is still planning to work while studying. /edv
