Rhian Ramos opened up about her experience stepping into the role of Mitena, the ice queen villain in the “Encantadia Chronicles: Sang’gre,” describing it as both fun and emotionally challenging.
At the series’ grand media conference over the weekend, Ramos shared that she had the “best time” playing the villain, stating, “I really believe that the bad guys have more fun.”
However, the Kapuso actress admitted that beyond the fun, the role pushed her to confront deeper meanings.
“It was such a challenge because I believe that all people are intrinsically good. No one is born to do bad things—it comes from a place of pain, of trauma,” she explained. “To understand my character was my biggest challenge.”
Ramos emphasized that doing something good or bad ultimately comes down to “personal choice.”
“Our situations don’t justify our actions; it’s always a choice regarding what you choose to do and how you react to what happens to you. You can’t just say, ‘I did this because this happened to me,’” she stated.
The ‘good’ guys
Meanwhile, the new generation of Sang’gre: Bianca Umali (Terra), Kelvin Miranda (Adamus), Faith Da Silva (Flamarra), and Angel Guardian (Deia) shared the values they want to convey to the viewers.
“Strength doesn’t always rule. Sometimes it’s quiet or sometimes it doubts or sometimes it forgives. It’s choosing to stand in the storm without losing yourself,” said Guardian.
“We need to expect the negative because that is what will bring us to our potential. Through our learning our struggles, and our mistakes, that is where we learn to fight bravely and to be better in person,” added Miranda.
Meanwhile, the 2016 Sang’gre—Glaiza de Castro (Pirena), Sanya Lopez (Danaya), and Gabbi Garcia (Alena)—became emotional as they reflected on the journey they had with the franchise.
“I was 17 when we shot Encantadia last 2016. I’m turning 27 this year. Our lives have all changed. But what has remained is the bond, the sisterhood, and the relationship that we all four have,” expressed Garcia.
“Even though we haven’t seen each other for a long time, when we see each other, it’s like nothing has changed. And that’s something that you can’t just get in this industry. And that’s what Encantadia brought to us,” continued the actress.
“Encantadia Chronicles: Sang’gre” premieres on GMA on June 16.
Aside from Ramos, other cast members are Gabby Eigenmann, Sherilyn Reyes, Luis Hontiveros, Isabel Ortega, Manilyn Reynes, Boboy Garovillo, and Michelle Dee. /edv
