BTS members V, also known as Kim Taehyung, and RM, also known as Kim Namjoon, have officially completed their mandatory military service on Tuesday, June 10.
The boy group members greeted the press outside the military base at the Sinbuk-eup Sports Park soccer field in Yulmun-ri, Sinbuk-eup, Chuncheon, Gangwon Province.
RM delighted onlookers by playing the saxophone while V held the flowers they received. The duo’s discharge came ahead of BTS’ 12th anniversary.
V expressed his gratitude to the fans, called ARMY, for patiently waiting for them after 18 months.
“After coming to the military, I spent time thinking and getting my body and mind back together. I want to run to ARMY as soon as possible. I want to tell them that I am truly grateful for waiting. Please wait just a little longer and I will return with a wonderful stage,” he said in Korean.
V noted that he aspires to be a good citizen after having the chance to work alongside the armed forces.
“There are still officers and warriors in our unit who took good care of us. I hope they don’t get hurt, train safely, and are discharged safely. I’m really grateful. I will go out into society and work hard to live as a good person,” he continued.
Prior to their military discharge, V and RM delighted their fans with one last look in their uniforms.
RM posted a four-cut photo on his Instagram Stories with the caption, “I’m getting discharged. The end.”
Meanwhile, V impressed his followers with his toned figure after posting gym photos with South Korean actor Song Kang. The pair also shared clips posing inside a photo booth.
After RM and V, Jungkook and Jimin are set to be discharged on Wednesday, June 11, while Suga is scheduled to finish his military service on June 21. Members Jin and J-Hope were discharged last year.
Meanwhile, BTS’ 12th anniversary celebration will be held on June 13, the group’s debut date. This year’s theme is ‘Twelve O’Clock,’ inspired by their 2020 track ‘Zero O’Clock,’ a song about healing, resilience and new beginnings. /ra
