Gene Padilla shared that his brother Dennis Padilla remains in good spirits and has accepted his defeat in the recent elections.
“It’s okay, even though Kuya lost, it’s okay with him. That’s how it is, some won, some lost. Let’s just move on,” he told INQUIRER.net during the premiere night of his new film “Isang Komedya sa Langit” on Tuesday, May 20.
Dennis failed to succeed in his bid for councillor in Caloocan’s 2nd District; his ex-wife, Marjorie Barretto, also lost in her attempt to be reelected as councilor in the city’s 1st District.
During Claudia Barretto’s wedding to Basti Lorenzo in April, Dennis and Gene were thrust into the spotlight after a family dispute unfolded involving the former’s children with Marjorie.
Meanwhile, Gene currently stars as Father Javier Salas in “Isang Komedya sa Langit,” a story inspired by the story of GomBurZa, the three Filipino Catholic priests, Mariano Gómez, José Burgos, and Jacinto Zamora, who were executed during the Spanish colonial period.
Despite the comedic take of the film, Gene emphasized that the film also has significance that the youth needs to see today ahead of the Philippine Independence Day on June 12.
“Gen Z today and our millennials need to know the traces of our history so they will have an appreciation for what was there before. Especially with the story of the GomBurZa that inspired this story,” he said in Tagalog.
“Isang Komedya sa Langit,” which will open in select Philippine cinemas on May 28, also stars Jaime Fabregas as Father Emmanuel Garcia and Edgar Allan Guzman as Father Juan Borromeo.
The film features Carmi Martin, John Medina, and Akihiro Blanco. It is directed by Roi Paolo Calilong and written and produced by Rossana Hwang of Kapitana Entertainment Media. /edv
