Miss World Philippines Krishnah Gravidez couldn’t help but get emotional as she received a new pair of shoes created by international shoe designer Jojo Bragais, and even tearing up upon learning that the design has been named after her.
The Baguio lass has now found herself among the lineup of iconic Filipino beauty queens who have been immortalized by the international pageant shoe designer with their own design.
“I don’t know how I feel. Oh my gosh. It will just be all waterworks. Thank you so much, I didn’t expect this,” said an emotional Gravidez in a video posted on the Jojo Bragais Shoes social media page on Sunday, May 18.
She said she found the shoes to be beautiful and joked that the design was as sexy as she is. “To have these shoes named [after] me, this is a rare opportunity, and this is a story of true resilience, strength, and dedication. Thank you so much, Jojo,” she said.
Among the queens who have their own tribute Bragais shoes are 2015 Miss Universe Pia Wurtzbach, 2013 Miss World Megan Young, and 2021 The Miss Globe Maureen Montagne.
The Filipino shoe designer told INQUIRER.net in an interview that he found Gravidez’s story to be inspiring, and “reflects the realities of many aspiring queens here in the country.”
He said she is one of the few beauty queens who are kind hearted. “Her victory is a reminder that if Krishna can do it, they can, too. There is a Krishnah in all of us,” he added.
Bragais said there was a lot of science involved in designing the Krishnah shoe. “There is something in the way Krishna moves that I really like. I’m a fan of how she uses her shoulders and hips to perform on stage, it’s uniquely hers. Her body frame is like a doll. So this shoe is designed to elongate her legs, yet having great support on the ankles and toes,” he said.
“The platform and heel height is just right. It’s easy to walk and balance. No matter how complicated the routine is on stage, ‘di kakalas ‘yong sapatos sa paa (the shoe will not slip out of the foot),” Bragais explained.
If the Krishnah pair will get to be seen on the Miss World stage, the fans have yet to find out. But Bragais hinted that Gravidez loved a yet to be released design that she will definitely use, the first woman to wear it in a competition.
Gravidez is currently in Telangana, India, for the 72nd Miss World Festival. More than 100 delegates are competing to succeed Czech beauty Krystyna Pyszkova. She also earned a spot in the quarterfinals for the Talent Challenge tonight, May 19.
The Philippines has one Miss World victory in the pageant’s history, with Megan Young posting the country’s first win in Indonesia in 2013.
