Marjorie Barretto may not have succeeded in her bid for councilor in Caloocan’s 1st District, but she said she is proud of having put up a fair fight against her opponents in the May 12 elections.

In an Instagram post on Friday, May 16, Barretto reflected on her loss as she shared snippets of her campaign. The actress announced her candidacy as councilor for Caloocan’s 1st District in October 2024 after a 10-year break from politics.

Barretto said she still has “dreams left to be fulfilled” without a position in the government, adding that she’s thankful for those who helped her throughout her councilor bid.

“Hindi po tayo nagtatapos dito, pahinga lamang po ako ng kaunti at sa tulong ng Dyos matutupad pa rin ang mga pangarap ko para sa inyo nang hindi kailangan ng posisyon. Grateful for the memories and the people I met along the way,” she said.

(We’re not yet finished. I will just take a rest and with the help of the Lord, I still have dreams left to be fulfilled for all of you that doesn’t need a government position. I’m grateful for the memories and the people I met along the way.)

Incidentally, the actress’s ex-husband Dennis Padilla, who also ran for councilor in Caloocan’s second district, also lost the race. Based on Comelec’s unofficial tally, he garnered 9,320 votes.

Barretto and Padilla’s political losses came on the heels of their highly-publicized spat following the wedding of their daughter, Claudia, after the actor-comedian claimed that he was treated shabbily despite being the “father of the bride.”

The actress-politician then clapped back at him in a tell-all interview with Ogie Diaz, where she detailed her ex-husband’s alleged abuse toward her and “toxic” behavior towards his children, Claudia, Julia and Leon.
