Julia Garner, known for her role in the award-winning series “Ozark,” is reported to be the frontrunner to portray Madonna in an upcoming limited series.
Deadline reported that Garner is still set to play the Queen of Pop in the TV series after the biopic was scrapped at Universal Pictures in 2023.
The new series is a collaboration between Madonna and Netflix. It remains unclear which period in the music icon’s decades-spanning career the series will focus on, as it is still in the early stages of development.
The outlet also stated that director-producer Shawn Levy, known for his work on “Stranger Things” and “Deadpool & Wolverine,” is also attached to the upcoming Madonna series.

In December 2023, Garner and Madonna shared the stage at the singer’s Celebration Tour. The duo was also seen spending time together during the Vanity Fair Oscar Party in March of this year, as seen in the photo the former shared on her Instagram.
Garner made her film debut at 17 in “Martha Marcy May Marlene” (2011). Her television career gained momentum with a recurring role in the FX series “The Americans” (2015–2018), where she portrayed Kimberly Breland.
In 2017, the 31-year-old actress was cast as Ruth Langmore in the crime drama series “Ozark,” which earned her three Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series over three consecutive years.
In 2022, Garner took on the role of real-life con artist Anna Sorokin in the miniseries “Inventing Anna” (2022), which received critical acclaim. She also headlined “The Assistant” (2019), a role that resonated with the #MeToo movement.
In 2024, she was cast as Shalla-Bal / Silver Surfer in the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe film “The Fantastic Four: First Steps.”
