In the aftermath of the mid-term elections, Ai-Ai delas Alas revealed that she was offered to run for mayor in Calatagan. However, she doesn’t see herself entering politics anytime soon.
Delas Alas recalled that she had multiple offers to enter politics in the May 12 episode of “Fast Talk with Boy Abunda.” She and Lani Misalucha received offers to run for a government position.
“Ako, na-offer ako. Marami nang times. Totoo. Kaya nag-aral ako sa UP, diba? Ng public governance (I was offered many times. This is true. This is why I studied public governance in UP),” she said.
Abunda then asked the actress-comedienne if she “considered” running for public office, to which she said yes. Misalucha also asked Delas Alas what government position, which made the latter say Calatagan mayor in response.
Despite initially considering the offer, Delas Alas ultimately didn’t accept the offer, stating that it might mentally hurt her.
“Una sa lahat, feeling ko, hindi ko pa kaya ‘yung gan’un kataas na posisyon. Bukod sa dapat mag-aral muna ako, mababang posisyon muna saka tayo mag-Mayora,” she said. “Bukas ang loob ko pero hindi na. Okay na ako, ayoko na. Bugbog na bugbog na puso ko. Ayoko nang mabugbog pa.”
(First of all, I feel like I couldn’t handle such a high position. Aside from studying, I feel like I should start with a lower position before running for mayor. I used to be open about it, but not anymore. I’m okay with it. I don’t want it anymore. My heart has been bruised many times. I don’t want it to be bruised again.)
Hollywood plans?
Delas Alas also said during the interview that she dreams of making it in Hollywood, adding that it is part of her plans for the year until 2026.
The actress-comedienne is a green card holder in the United States, and confirmed back in March that she revoked her green card petition for her estranged husband, Gerald Sibayan.
“‘Yan ang gagawin ko ngayon. Gusto ko talaga, ‘yun talaga ang plano ko for this year until 2026. ‘Yun ang plano ko na gusto kong [mag-try] sa Hollywood kasi wala namang mawawala. Mag-isa na lang ako and there’s no harm in trying,” she said.
(This is what I will do now. I really want to do it. This is really my plan for this year until 2026. I plan to try entering Hollywood because nothing will be taken from me. I’m alone now, and there’s no harm in trying.)
