Social media was abuzz after a viral photo appeared to show Harry Styles was among the crowd at St. Peter’s Square during the announcement of the new pope.
The image, which began circulating on X (formerly Twitter), showed a man with a resemblance to Styles, wearing a cap, black sunglasses, and a blue jacket who stood among the crowd as the Vatican announced Robert Prevost of the US as the new Catholic pontiff, taking the name Pope Leo XIV.
The netizen who originally posted the picture of the pop star wrote in her caption, “While watching the Pope’s announcement in St. Peter’s Square, Harry Styles passed by me, we locked eyes, and I immediately snapped a photo of this moment, what a day OMG.”

As of this writing, Styles has yet to comment on or confirm the photo’s authenticity. However, as the image gained traction, netizens took to social media to share videos of the One Direction member being spotted multiple times roaming around Italy.
Fans have been quick to share their reactions over the alleged appearance of Styles in the Vatican.
“Harry Styles is so random, one day he’s at the Grammys winning album of the year, then he’s running a marathon in Japan, but he could also be in Rome waiting for the announcement of the new pope, I love being his fan,” wrote one X user.
In March, Styles participated in the 2025 Tokyo Marathon and completed the 26.2-mile race. He impressed the crowd after finishing with a time of 3:24:07, which is an average pace of 7:47 per mile. /ra
