BINI Sheena makes acting debut in ‘MMK’ episode featuring her life story

Sheena Catacutan of the P-pop girl group BINI is set to make her acting debut in a special episode of “Maalaala Mo Kaya” (MMK), where she will portray herself in a dramatization of her own life story.

A trailer for the episode was released on Tuesday, April 29, offering a glimpse into the life and struggles of Sheena following her mother’s passing during her trainee days as a BINI member.

The teaser spotlights Sheena’s heavy moments coping with the loss of her mother while being a P-pop idol. BINI recently gained widespread recognition and has been dubbed as the “Nation’s Girl Group.”

Sheena’s mother is portrayed by Angelica Panganiban, who is returning to acting after a four-year hiatus during which  she focused on raising her first child.

In an interview with ABS-CBN, Panganiban shared that the “MMK” episode is a suitable comeback for her, especially now that she is a mother who also recently lost her own mother.

“Hindi siya mahirap mag-say ‘Yes’ kasi very close siya sa akin, naka-relate ako sa kanya kahit papaano… Isa na rin akong mom ngayon, and recently I also lost my mother. Nung nabasa ko ‘yung script, naramdaman kong kaya ko siyang gawin,” she said.

Panganiban emphasized that the audience will draw inspiration from Sheena’s life story as it is a narrative filled with love for family and achieving one’s dreams. 

The trailer also showcases the special participation of the other BINI members, Aiah, Colet, Maloi, Gwen, Stacey, Mikha, and Jhoanna.

BINI Sheena’s “MMK” life story will premiere on May 1 on iWantTFC.

Meanwhile, after bidding farewell in December 2022, the drama anthology “MMK” recently returned to screen in a “limited series” format.
