The cortege of National Artist for Film and Broadcast Arts Nora Aunor was formally carried out of Heritage Park in Taguig on Tuesday morning, April 22, beginning its procession to the Metropolitan Theater in Manila (MET) for necrological services ahead of her interment and hero’s burial at the Libingan ng mga Bayani.
Aunor’s flag-draped casket was carried by honor guards at around 7:45 a.m. as family members gathered for the final send-off. Fans and close family friends also lined the entrance of the memorial park to scatter flowers at the casket.
The funeral procession marked a convoy of vehicles carrying the late Superstar and her loved ones, children, Ian, Lotlot, Matet, Kiko and Kenneth.
As the convoy made its way through Metro Manila, onlookers gathered along the streets to pay their final respects to the late National Artist.
Some roads in the City of Manila including Padre Burgos Avenue (from Mehan Garden to Quezon Boulevard Bridge North Bound) Natividad Lopez Street Northbound (from N. Lopez/Villegas intersection heading towards Universidad de Manila) will be closed to give way to the state funeral.
The necrological service at MET will commence with arrival honors at the Arroceros Forest Park at 8:30 a.m., followed by a tribute program at 9:00 a.m. Aunor’s children are expected to deliver a tribute speech for their late mother.
The memorial service is open to the public with limited slots and will also be live streamed on the Facebook pages of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) and the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP).
Aunor died last week at the age of 71 due to acute respiratory failure.
