Nora Aunor died of acute respiratory failure, says son Ian de Leon

Nora Aunor’s son Ian de Leon said the late superstar died from acute respiratory failure.
De Leon confirmed the cause of his mother’s death in an interview on “24 Oras” on Friday, April 18.
“Technically and clinically speaking the cause of death was acute respiratory failure,” he told Vicky Morales.
As defined by National Library of Medicine, acute respiratory failure occurs when “one’s lungs cannot release enough oxygen into the blood, which prevents the organs from properly functioning.”

De Leon also noted that aside from the state funeral, they don’t have any details yet about the other tributes that the government plans for the late National Artist for Film and Broadcast Arts.
“Aside from [the] state funeral that will be conducted on Tuesday, we’ve spoken kaming magkakapatid (us siblings). We’re asking [for] any updates from the local government and so far, wala pa pong official kaming natatanggap (we haven’t received any official statement) from them so if we do, we’ll be sure to let you know,” he shared.
De Leon also shared the last moments he had with the late award-winning actress, who died on Wednesday at age 71.
“Ang huling message niya po sakin, sabi niya, ‘Anak pakihalik mo ako sa mga apo ko. Hug mo ako sa kanila. Sabihin mo sa kanila na mahal na mahal ko sila,’” he said, adding that Aunor was surrounded by her loved ones when she died.
(Her last message to me was, she said, ‘Son, please give my grandchildren a kiss and hug on my behalf, and tell them I love them so much,’)
In a previous press conference on Thursday, the actor clarified that Aunor did not die during a medical operation
Aunor’s wake is currently held at the Heritage Park in Taguig City. The public viewing is scheduled for April 19 and 20 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
On Tuesday, the Grand Dame of Philippine Cinema will be honored with a state funeral before her interment at the Libingan ng mga Bayani.
