Dennis Padilla’s brother calls out Claudia Barretto, siblings for ‘disrespect’

Dennis Padilla‘s brother, comic actor Gene Padilla, is also speaking out about the shabby treatment they received during the wedding of his daughter, Claudia Barretto, pointing out that their branch of the family were not made to become part of the entourage or of the wedding program.

Claudia married his longtime boyfriend Basti Lorenzo at a church in Alabang, with an outdoor reception in Santa Rosa, Laguna, attended by their close family friends from show business and the business sector. Basti is the son of industrialist Martin Ignacio Paez Lorenzo, and the brother of Mateo Lorenzo, husband of actress Erich Gonzales.

But the happy occasion was ruined by a social media rant made by Dennis shortly after the wedding, wherein he said that he felt disrespected when he was made to feel like a mere “visitor” instead of the father of the bride.

Coming to his brother’s defense, Gene, who also attended his niece’s church ceremony, said it was the first time to see the father of the bride who was not part of the program, did not even get to walk his daughter down the aisle, and was not even assigned a proper seat. He said that Dennis had decided for them, including their mother Catalina Dominguez, to just sit at the back of the church.

“Ngayon lang po ako magsasalita. By 1PM nasa church na po ako. Galing Bulacan going to Alabang… [sinama] po namin 5am gumising na excited, same kay kuya Dennis Padilla para sa kasal ng anak niya… Ngayon lang ako naka-witness ng kasal na di part ng program ang ama ng bride,” he said.

(I will only speak up about this now. We were there at the church by 1 p.m. We headed to Alabang from Bulacan. We woke up at 5 a.m. because we’re excited for Kuya Dennis and for the wedding of his daughter. But it was my first time to witness a wedding where the father of the bride is not part of the program.)

“Sa aga namin dun… na nandun mga event organizer wala man lang nagsabi na di siya part ng program… di kasama sa entourage na maglalakad sa gitna papuntang harapan ng altar,” he continued. “Nagtanong kami kung san uupo ang nanay namin ang sabi kahit saan dun at yung ama dun na lang DAW tumabi sa mga ninong kaya kami ni Kuya Dennis pumunta na lamang sa likuran.”

(Despite being early, none of the event organizers told him that he’s not going to be part of the program and entourage walking at the altar… We asked where our mother was going to sit, and we were told she can sit anywhere, while Dennis may sit together with the principal sponsors. That’s why Kuya Dennis and I decided that we should just sit at the back.)

Gene further claimed that Dennis and their mother were emotional about how their experience at Claudia’s wedding turned out.

“Napaluha at napaiyak si kuya sa mga nangyari kaya sabi ko umuwi na tayo after ng simbahan at papicture na lang sa kinasal… Naawa din ako sa nanay ko kasi naiyak na rin. Naramdaman ko yung sakit na naramdaman ng kapatid at nanay ko dahil ama din ako.”

(Kuya Dennis became emotional with what happened. This is why I told him to go home after the church and snap photos with the newlyweds instead. I felt so sorry for my mother, who teared up as well. I feel for my brother because I, too, am a father.)

‘Tama ba ginawa niyo?’

Gene further called out his niece Claudia for “disrespecting” her father during her big day, just when he had been trying to patch up their relationship for quite some time.

“Ang tagal na panahon na nanunuyo at nahingi ng atensyon ama niyo sa inyo mga anak. Yan ba itinanim ng mga nakapaligid sa inyo? Puro kayo karangyaan at kasikatan. Sa inyo na lahat yan. Sanay kami sa hirap at di talaga kami nababagay sa inyo,” he said.

(Your father has been trying to win you and your siblings back for a long time. Is that what the people around you taught you to do? You’re full of riches and fame. That’s all yours. We’re used to suffering. We never fit in with you anyway.)

“Pero pinagkaiba natin yung puso namin at dignidad di niyo kaya pantayan… kahit magtanong kayo sa ibang magulang, tama ba o mali ang ginawa niyo sa tatay niyo??? Dennis Dominguez Padilla Cheeni Taa Samuel Baldivia di pala father of the BRIDE! Guest of the BRIDE!!!” he wrote.

(What makes us different is that you can’t match up to our hearts and dignity. If you ask other parents, is it write to treat your father that way? Dennis Dominguez Padilla Cheeni Taa Samuel Baldivia is not the father of the bride. He is the guest of the bride.)

Neither Claudia nor her siblings, Julia and Leon, as well as Dennis’ ex-wife, Marjorie Barretto, have commented on the Padilla’s posts, as of this writing.
