Ilongga beauty queen Alexie Brooks paid homage to Egypt even before setting foot on the northern African country through a series of photographs channeling the iconic Egyptian Queen Nefertiti.

Brooks released the images on social media on Tuesday afternoon, April 8, the day she left the country for her journey to the 2025 Miss Eco International crown. The pageant is set to take place in the port city of Alexandria.

“ICON. LEGEND. QUEEN. Capturing the essence of Nefertiti, worshipped for her grace and beauty, but equally famed for breaking down barriers. Her name translates to ‘A Beautiful Woman Has Come,'” Brooks said in her caption.

“Here’s hoping that just like Nefertiti, I can make history in Egypt! [Egyptian flag emoji],” continued Brooks, the first black Filipino woman to represent the Philippines in the Miss Eco International pageant.

Brooks donned a midriff-baring Eyptian attire composed of an intricately-beaded bustier top and a full skirt in shimmery golden fabric, accentuated with cascading strings of beads attached on the waistband.

An ornately-adorned shoulder piece attached to a long flowy gold cape added drama to the ensemble, with a large, decorated headdress in the same fabric completing the look, executed by designer Fritz Caancan from Iloilo, Brooks’ home province.

The designer also provided Brooks’ airport departure look, a two-piece brown ensemble composed of a pair of wide-legged trousers and a Filipiniana-inspired top with peplum hips and gold buttons.

Brooks married the two cultures, Filipino and Egyptian, in yet another Caancan creation that she sported at her sendoff press conference on Monday, April 7. The midriff-baring ensemble is composed of a cropped barong top with butterfly sleeves and Chinese collar, and a long black skirt inspired by the garbs of women in ancient Egypt.

Brooks is aiming to give the Philippines its third victory in the environment-themed international pageant, following Cynthia Thomalla in 2018 and Kathleen Paton in 2022.

The 2025 Miss Eco International pageant will hold its coronation program at the Al Zahraa Ballroom of Hilton Green Plaza in Alexandria, Egypt, on April 19 (April 20 in Manila).
