Carla Abellana revealed her decision to freeze her eggs, saying she initially planned to do it years ago but that she postponed it as “life happened.”
Egg freezing, also known as oocyte cryopreservation, is a “process in which a woman’s eggs are extracted, frozen and stored as a method to preserve reproductive potential in women of reproductive age,” as per University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) Health.
The actress documented the process through a video on her Instagram page on Sunday, March 30, sharing that she had her first consultation a few years back.
“Life happened so I had to postpone the process for over a year and a half,” she narrated in the video, opting not to expound on the reason behind the postponement.
Abellana pursued it again in 2024 after the clinic where she had her first consultation opened a new branch that is nearer to her residence.
“I had lost count of how many daily injections I had to endure. If at first you don’t succeed, try and try again!” she said.

In the caption, Abellana described the process as a “transformative experience” for her.
“My journey towards egg freezing has been a transformative experience — one that required a lot of research, emotional preparation, and support,” she said. “From the moment I decided to take this step, I knew it was important to surround myself with the right team.”
Abellana then thanked the medical staff that has been guiding her with care and expertise.
“I’m incredibly grateful to everyone involved — their kindness, support, and expertise made all the difference,” she added.
