Sloan Christian Struble, frontman and founder of the indie act Dayglow, knows that many art forms follow a pre-existing pattern. What he keeps in mind when making music is to create something true to himself.
Hailing from Texas, the 25-year-old musician started his career sometime in 2016 under the stage name Kindred which was also the title of his first album. Creating mixtapes was his first foray into music until he made a name for himself with his experimental take on themes about youth, growing up, self-love, and other related topics. He founded the band Dayglow in 2017 and released the album “Mindless Creatures” in September of the same year.
Also part of Dayglow are drummer Brady Knippa, bassist Peyton Harrington, keyboardist Norrie Swofford, and guitarist Colin Crawford.
Whether he performs solo or as Dayglow’s frontman, Struble doesn’t consider himself a solo act. He always sees himself as part of the band. This and his music, among other factors, opened his doors to different opportunities including the chance to perform at the 2025 edition of the Wanderland Manila festival in Alabang from March 22 to 23.
In making music, Struble admitted that maintaining originality as a musician is challenging.
“That’s a challenge. I think one of my goals with Dayglow and a lot of the music I make is to not make a duplicate of something that already exists,” he told reporters during an intimate media gathering. “All [form of] art is imitation. What you make is going to relatively sound like something else.”
The musician is aware that music takes notes from a pattern. Despite this, he makes it a point to create songs faithful to his identity instead of following the trends.
“I wish I could make music or a story that [hasn’t] existed already, but it’s usually a goal with my songs. It is about filling a void that shouldn’t exist,” he said. “In writing music, I don’t usually think about what’s trendy or what’s popular, I just focus on what’s true to [myself] and that is the best start you can make.”
Dayglow has released four albums, namely, “Fuzzybrain,” “Harmony House,” “People in Motion,” and “Dayglow.” Some of the band’s standout tracks include “Can I Call You Tonight?”, “Close to You,” “Then It All Goes Away,” and “Run the World!!!,” to name a few.
Also part of Wanderland Manila’s acts are Daniel Caesar, Mayonnaise, Toneejay, Regina Song, Alyson, Honne, The Paper Kites, Urbandub, Dilaw, Yung Kai, Nameless Kids, and Plain White T’s, among others.
