Hollywood stars Daisy Ridley and Alden Ehrenreich, who rose to fame for their roles in the “Star Wars” franchise, are set to headline “The Last Resort,” an upcoming romantic-comedy movie set in the Philippines.
Deadline reported that the production is set to begin in April, and the story follows Brooke (Ridley) who travels to the Philippines to scout around for a new resort location in the quest to prove herself worthy of succeeding her father’s hotel empire.
In her trip to the Philippines, Brooke meets Ben (Ehrenreich), an expatriate charter pilot who helps her to discover the beauty of the country and the lure to love amid duty and freedom.
Donald Petrie, who directed “Miss Congeniality” and “How to Lose a Guy in Ten Days,” will be directing the film with a script from Karen McCullah, who is known for her work in “Legally Blonde” and “10 Things I Hate about You.”
In the Star Wars sequel trilogy, Ridley portrayed Rey Skywalker, a scavenger-turned-Jedi. She also appeared in the mystery film “Murder on the Orient Express,” the romantic drama “Ophelia,” and science-fiction “Chaos Walking.”
Ehrenreich, on the other hand, played a younger version of the smuggler-turned-hero Han Solo in “Solo: A Star Wars Story.” He also appeared in the comedy “Cocaine Bear,” the thriller “Fair Play,” and Christopher Nolan’s biographical film “Oppenheimer.”
Meanwhile, business tycoon Manuel V. Pangilinan will serve as an executive producer for “The Last Resort” alongside Ernesto “Bong” Sta. Maria. Jr. and Raja Collins. Simon Heo, Akshay Mehta and Rick Dugdale will be co-producers.
