Sam Milby broke down in tears as he spoke about his breakup with ex-fiancee Catriona Gray, a matter that still pains him months after reports of their split first surfaced.
In an interview with Boy Abunda, which aired on Monday, March 3, Milby was asked directly about his relationship with the Miss Universe 2018 titleholder, but the actor declined to discuss their eventual breakup, saying he still “doesn’t feel comfortable” disclosing any details.
“It’s hard to talk about [‘yung] breakup namin. It’s something I didn’t want to talk about. I did an interview with MJ Felipe which everyone knows about, and it was mainly to clear ‘yung issue. It’s so sad because, with social media, people just want to connect and believe so many things na walang katotohanan (that are not true),” he said.
With his voice breaking, Milby shared that what made the breakup all the more difficult was the fact that they had gotten engaged, and that their wedding did not happen.
“[It wasn’t just about us being] boyfriend and girlfriend. We were engaged. And to have that not push through, it’s been really rough, honestly,” he said as he started to cry.
“It’s a hard subject I still don’t want to talk about. If people think that it’s been easy for me, it hasn’t. Sorry,” he further explained in between sobs.
The actor-singer also admitted that he has a hard time moving on from their split since there was “so much love and respect” between them.
“I don’t want to go into details. The more you talk about any issue, mas maraming bala ang tao na pwedeng gamitin (there are many things that can be used) against you. There’s no point. [There was] so much love and respect that it hasn’t been easy [moving on],” he said.
Asked if he is “still at the point of trying to fix things” between them, he said this was something he could answer at the moment.
No third party
The actor-singer also denied that third-party allegations hounding him and singer Moira dela Torre, reiterating that this was not the cause of his breakup with Gray.
“I felt the need to clear the issue that there was no third party and ‘yung sinasabi na si (and the claims that) Moira [Dela Torre] ang third party. I wanted to make that clear but it’s something I didn’t want to talk about” he said. “Sa’min ni Cat, we’ve been private about our relationship. Out of respect sa kanya (for her), I still don’t feel comfortable talking about our relationship.”
During the interview, the “Everything About My Wife” star was asked if Dela Torre was indeed the third party in his split, to which he denied. He also confirmed that the singer-songwriter is not his friend anymore, echoing his previous remarks from his interview with Felipe.
Milby confirmed his split in February 2025 but kept mum about the reason behind their split. The ex-partners, who announced their engagement in February 2023, were supposed to get married sometime in 2024.
Gray has yet to publicly speak about their breakup, as of this writing.
