Emmy and Golden Globe winning actress Zendaya has taken on the voice role of Felicia, the teenage daughter of Shrek (Mike Myers) and Fiona (Cameron Diaz) in the upcoming “Shrek 5.”
Universal Pictures made the cast announcement on Friday, Feb. 28, through a 30-second trailer featuring Shrek, Fiona, Donkey, Pinocchio and Felicia.
The trailer opens with Shrek’s sidekick, Donkey (Eddie Murphy), asking a magic mirror, “Hey Magic Mirror, who’s the fairest of them all?” to which it responds, “Why Shrek! Of course,” as it shows a slideshow of reels featuring Shrek dancing and sporting a shirtless six-pack.
Felicia then enters the frame and bursts out with an, “Ew!” as she looks into the clips of her father, while her mother Fiona swoops in with, “Oh, momma like.”
Zendaya’s Felicia flaunts a deep-green lipstick, a reddish-brown bun-like hairdo and a nose piercing. The voice over confirmed the actress’ casting, saying as the clip ended, “And Zendaya, damn.”
As part of the announcement, the film studio also reshared a 2017 X (formerly Twitter) post from Zendaya that reads, “I watch Shrek too often in my adulthood,” writing in their caption that the actress’ statement “aged well.”
In “Shrek 3,” Shrek and Fiona gave birth to triplets: Fergus, Farkle and Felicia. But the triplets have only been seen as babies in the film series, marking Felicia’s appearance in the fifth movie as the first.
Zendaya is fresh from the success of tennis love triangle drama “Challengers” and epic space opera film series “Dune: Part Two.”
Aside from “Shrek 5,” the 28-year-old actress is set to be seen next in the third season of “Euphoria,” Christopher Nolan’s star-studded “The Odyssey,” and the fourth “Spider-Man” installment with her real-life boyfriend Tom Holland.
“Shrek 5” will be released in theaters on Dec. 23, 2026.
