After her viral photos with partner Philmar Alipayo getting inked together, Andi Eigenmann revealed the full design of her new tattoo as well as the meaning behind it, saying it’s a way to honor her late mother, seasoned actress Jaclyn Jose.

On her Instagram page, Eigenmann shared photos of her showing off her new palm-leaf tattoo as a reference to her mother winning the Palme d’or for Best Actress at Cannes Film Festival in 2016.

“Got my long overdue palm leaf in honor of my Nanay,” she wrote, adding that she purposely got it days before Jose’s first death anniversary. “A palm d’or winner for best actress at the Cannes film test, her proudest achievement is just one of the reasons.”

Eigenmann explained that the tattoo also symbolizes other facets of her mother that she would like to embody, including “strength and victory.”

“Strength. Amidst life’s many challenges she always remained strong. The most admirable thing about her,” she said.

The “Agua Bendita” actress emphasized that she would forever cherish the moment of being with her mother when Jose accepted the Palm d’or plaque in Cannes.

“Victory. Growing up was special, witnessing someone first hand, constantly refining her craft, always striving for excellence in doing what she loved most. Her dedication to evolving in her art was a testament to her passion. What a privilege to have this woman as my mother. She won many accolades for this, and the first Asian Palm d’Or winner for Best Actress at the Cannes Film Festival so far, is just one of them. I’ll always cherish this moment, and the fact that she chose to share this with me,” she stated.

Eigenmann underscored that dealing with the loss of her mother has been “long and dark,” yet she holds on to the lessons Jose taught her in living a good life and trying to find the light.

“Eternal life, as she will always and forever live in me. In almost one year of mourning her loss, of going through this grief, I would always get lost in my head figuring out the best way to honor my mother. Recently I’ve come to realise that there is no better way than to take a good look at this life that she gave me, the best gift she could give, and to continue to treasure and cherish it by living it the best way I know how. Just as she would always want me to,” she expressed.

“As grief changes me, I would like to carry these facets of who she was, alongside those of mine that I know she always loved. This journey of grief has been long and tough, and quite frankly, sometimes dark. But I believe that the love you showered me with should be enough to trust that I will see the light again,” concluded the former actress.

Eigenmann recently made headlines when she and her partner aired their lovers’ spat on social media, which came about after Alipayo got a matching tattoo with his best friend Swedish photographer Pernila Sjoo.
